Two traffic stops lead to arrests

Two separate traffic stops by members of the Pocono Mountain Regional police has led to charges being filed against two individuals

On Wednesday, Jan. 26, about 1:45 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle along SR611 near Bill's Shop Rite Plaza for vehicle code violations. As officers spoke with the driver and occupants they observed indications of intoxication and illegal narcotics. Further investigation led to a search of the vehicle and the occupants.A passenger, Michael Peterson, 23, of Cresco, was found to have drug paraphernalia and three pills in his possession. Two of the three pills were controlled substances, police said. Peterson was issued a summons for drug possession and released.At about 1:03 p.m. on Wednesday officers made a traffic stop along SR115 in Tunkhannock Township for an expired inspection sticker.The driver was identified as Erik Funk, 21, of Cresco. It was learned that Funk was wanted for desertion from the U.S. Army out of Fort Drum, N.Y. Funk was taken into custody and lodged in the county prison to await the arrival of military personnel.
