The arrest of a Lansford man by Nesquehoning police may have ended a rash of burglaries which occurred in the borough earlier this year.

John Elvin Bartenope, 33, of Center St., Lansford, yesterday waived charges to Carbon County Court related to eight Nesquehoning burglaries.Shawn Michael Murphy, 31, of East Patterson St., Lansford, waived charges related to one of those burglaries.Hearings for the two had been scheduled yesterday morning before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.Many witnesses showed up for the hearing and were prepared to testify in the cases, but Bartenope and Murphy opted to forward all charges to Carbon court.The Nesquehoning burglaries allegedly committed by Bartenope are:• Rear garage on East Railroad Street, the property of Richard Galgoci, between July 23 and Sept. 15. Stolen were a power washer and a teal Makita tool case with Makita hammer drill. Estimated value is over $500.• Nesquehoning Storage, Stock Street, Nesquehoning, on Sept. 14, the property of Stanley Landis of Slatington. Stolen were various tools including a pneumatic wrench, welder, and grinder, with the tools having an estimated value of over $2,000.• West Marconi Avenue, between July 22 and Sept. 14, the property of David Susko of Nesquehoning. Stolen were three coils of flex copper, a table saw, a power saw, a 40-foot aluminum ladder, and various other tools with an estimated value of over $4,000.• Seventh Avenue between July 23 and 24, various tools from a motor vehicle owned by Tom Kuba, with a value of $1,000.• Coal Street, rear garage, various tools including a welder, chainsaw, gas tank, and Black Sawszall, with a value of the tools over $2,000.• September 14 at Nesquehoning Storage Shed, Stock Street, property of George Dennis of Lansford. The tools were valued over $500.• Nesquehoning Storage Shed, Stock Street, tools belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Gabe Ferrence of Summit Hill valued between $500 and $1,000.• Nesquehoning Storage Shed on Sept. 14, various tools owned by Keith Schnell of Lehighton with a value of about $1,000.Murphy is tied to the burglary involving the Susko property. He faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and criminal trespass.Bartenope faces numerous charges for each of the burglaries.According to the affidavit, he allegedly told police, when asked if he committed the Cross burglary, "I don't know! I was doing four bundles of heroin a day to keep from getting sick."Charges against Bartenope were filed on Dec. 29.In September, only days after some of the break-ins occurred, a traffic stop in Jim Thorpe provided a major break into solving a rash of burglaries.Nesquehoning Chief of Police Sean Smith said at the time that police from Nesquehoning, Jim Thorpe, Lansford, and Rush Township have been working together on a string of burglaries.A break in the case occurred when police received a tip, acted upon it, and recovered two tools.Jim Thorpe officer Eric Schrantz and Nesquehoning officer Carl Breiner, working together on a traffic stop, provided the major break, Smith said.Nesquehoning police recovered thousands of dollars worth of tools that were stolen during the string of burglaries. Some of the tools recovered were in another unit of the Nesquehoning Self Storage, which is located along Route 54 in Nesquehoning.
