Hit/run crashes

State police at Lehighton are investigating two hit-and-run crashes.

Troopers said the first occurred along Pheasant Road in Ross Township, Monroe County, on Saturday, Jan. 15, shortly after midnight. Troopers said a vehicle was driven westbound at an apparent high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control. The vehicle traveled over the westbound lane and onto the berm where it struck a mailbox and a small ditch. After initial impact the vehicle traveled southwest across both lanes of travel and struck two other mailboxes and a small group of trees. After that impact the driver fled the scene westbound.The second hit-and-run occurred about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, along Old Stagecoach Road, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said a driver was attempting a right-hand turn from Old Stagecoach Road west onto Hazlewood Road, when the top of the box of trailer struck the gutter/roof of the residence at 240 Old Stagecoach Road. The truck driver then fled the scene.Troopers also reported on a crash that occurred on Saturday about 1:53 a.m. along Rolling Hills Road near Kunkletown Road, in Ross Township. Troopers said Mark. S. Dorshimer, 40, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 1998 Nissan Frontier when it left the road and crashed into a tree. Troopers said Dorshimer was injured but did not indicate if he required medical attention. Damages to the vehicle were disabling, troopers added.
