In a heartwarming demonstration of community support for one of their own, hundreds of people from throughout the Jim Thorpe area filled the gymnasium at the JTASD administration building on Center Avenue Sunday to aid a young man and his family.

That young man,12-year-old Hunter Wolfe, is a seventh grade student at Saint Joseph Regional Academy (SJRA) in Jim Thorpe.Hunter was diagnosed with Leukemia in November of last year and now goes to St. Chistopher's Hospital in Philadelphia two or three times a week for treatment.Sunday's "Hoops for Hunter Fundraiser" was sponsored by the parents of St. Joes and the CYO parents.The funds raised by Sunday's events will help defray mounting travel and other expenses for Hunter's parents.The highlights of the fundraiser were two basketball games between SJRA basketball teams and adult coaches and teachers.In the first game, the girl's varsity basketball team played present and former SJRA teachers.In the second game, the boy's varsity basketball team played present and former CYO coaches.In both contests, the student teams emerged victorious over their adult counterparts.In addition to the afternoon of basketball, the fundraiser also included a Chinese auction, bake sale, food for sale, and sodas.There was also a table with a patchwork quilt called "Hugs for Hunter" which people could sign with words of encouragement for Hunter and his family.In a great act of personal friendship, Declan Behan donated the $390 prize from the 50-50 drawing back to the benefit of his friend and fellow classmate Hunter.Anyone wishing to help Hunter and his family in this time of need can contact Saint Joseph Regional Academy at 570-325-3186 or Trish Spillman at 484-629-4823.
