A Lansford couple aim to form a well-known public service group in their town.

Larry Williams and his wife, Holly Ellis, want to form a new Lions Club in Lansford. An initial meeting for new members will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford.Both Williams and Ellis are currently members of the Nesquehoning Lions Club - he for eight years and she for two - and recently moved to Lansford from Nesquehoning."We saw a need," said Williams, 43, who works as an emergency medical technician. Ellis is a stay-at-home Mom. Among the needs are eyeglasses for low-income people who live in Lansford. Now, Lions Clubs in neighboring communities provide the corrective eyewear. Williams also said a borough club could help the Panther Valley Public Library, and perhaps provide benches in the downtown area and work on other projects.Williams and Ellis have been in touch with Lion's Past District Governor Paul Moyer, who has been helping them in their efforts to start the Lansford club.Williams said that five or six people have expressed interest. "Now,/. it's just a matter of coordinating things to get it up and running," he said. "To form a club, we need 20 people."The club is open to those age 18 and older.
