PFSC poster contest open to students

This year's theme is "Summer in the Great Pennsylvania Outdoors" for the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs Poster Contest, which is open to students in grades 4-12.

Posters may use original artwork or photographs that depict the theme of the contest. Entries must be submitted on 11x17-inch poster board, and posters will be judged in Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior divisions and cash awards of $75, $60 and $50 will be awarded to the top three posters in each division.Entries should be mailed to the PFSC, 2426 North Second St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17110 and must be received by Monday, Jan. 31. Posters will be judged at the PFSC spring convention, March 11-13, in Lewisburg.Last year, the PFSC began a theme of "Seasons of Pennsylvania in the Outdoors" for its poster contest, and the theme name must appear somewhere on the face of the poster as part of the artwork. www.pfsc.org.*****Applications are being accepted for the 17th annual Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp, scheduled for Sunday-Friday, June 19-24, at the Allenberry Resort, Boiling Springs.Classes include principles of ecology, geology, aquatic vertebrate and invertebrate sampling, riparian buffers, hydrology, trout behavior, trout stream entomology, the biology of pollution and the politics of conservation. There are also hands-on classes in fly tying, fly casting, streamside ethics, the evolution of an angler, wader safety and survival and streamside botany.Camp facilities include professionals from various environmental fields and state agencies, such as the PFBC, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Students will also participate in a watershed project to repair stream habitat, with recreational time for the students to fish the world famous Yellow Breeches Creek.Attendance at the camp is limited to 32 students between ages of 14-17.
