The Lehigh Navigation Coal Compny has begun the work of combatting the mine fire between No. 9 and No. 11 mines and a force of men is now engaged in building barriers, constructing dams, and following other well-known methods of attempting to check the blaze. The fire broke out in the vicinity of the former workings recently. Although fighting a fire of this nature entails a certain amount of expense to the company, the axiom concerning the ill will is that a large number of maintenance men will be employed.
