Weatherly church will be honoring volunteers during Oct. 9 service

Published September 19. 2011 05:03PM

Zions Lutheran Church, Third and Fell streets, Weatherly, will have a special service to honor the many people in the area who give of themselves by volunteering their time and talent to the citizens of the area through the many varied service organizations on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.

The church is inviting any member of a volunteer organization to participate. Zions feels that it is important to recognize the individuals and groups who are often unsung for their contribution in making life a little simpler, easier and safer for the people of the community.

The congregation especially wishes to invite members of "Meals on Wheels," Grey Ladies, Scouts, Shepherd House and other food pantries, Red Cross, Salvation Army, volunteer fire companies and police officers, local and state, emergency and ambulance personnel and the various veterans organizations and their auxiliaries to participate.

The invitation is not just limited to Weatherly, but to the entire area. Little League, Bitty Basketball and other youth organizations are encouraged to attend. Groups who have uniforms are asked to wear them.

Special music will be presented by Zions choir and musicians and a message of commitment will be given by Zions Pastor, Dawn Richie.

Light refreshments will be served at a social hour following the service. Please call the church office at (570) 427-4812 if you or your organization plan to attend. All are welcome to come and give thanks to these special people.
