Lansford man faces drug charges
Lawrence Stewart, 44, of 607 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, faces charges from an incident which took place at about 9 p.m. Aug. 1.
Charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed by Officer Joshua Tom.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:
While on duty, Tom received a call from an unknown complainant that Stewart was drunk and flashing around a bag of marijuana. Stewart was reported to have purchased the drug from another, unknown younger male in the Turkey Hill parking lot.
Stewart was located in the 200 block of East Ridge Street. Tom asked Stewart, who was sitting on a front porch, to come with him away from the house in which he was visiting.
He did, and Tom noticed a strong smell of alcohol about him. Tom asked Stewart to empty his pockets in the presence of himself and Officer Amie Barclay. Stewart began emptying his pockets, and dropped a clear plastic bag on the ground and attempted to step on it.
Tom picked up the bag and saw that it held a small amount of marijuana.
Stewart also had rolling papers and a single, rolled marijuana cigarette.
Stewart was trying to hide the marijuana cigarette inside a pack of Pall Malls.
Tom arrested Stewart, informed him of the pending charges and released him.
