JT planners continue discussions about noise

The Jim Thorpe Planning Commission Committee met Tuesday evening for their regular monthly meeting. Noise concerns in Jim Thorpe continued to be discussed as well as new ideas for the committee to look into.

Some committee members had previously discussed noise issues in Jim Thorpe with Police Chief Joseph Schatz. The members learned about how the Jim Thorpe Police Department currently works to alleviate noise concerns. Jim Thorpe enforces a Disorderly Person Ordinance as well as enforcing the Pennsylvania State Vehicle Code for excessively loud exhaust.Aside from vehicular noise and amplified music the committee discussed construction noise at odd hours to be a possible issue. The committee members will look at a sample ordinance dealing with construction noises and discuss it at a later meeting. The committee will also look over a draft plan which details turning part of Jim Thorpe into a historic district. The plan is only a draft and the members are currently only looking into it and will discuss it more at a later meeting. The committee also discussed gathering research on possibly introducing the Fire Wise program to Jim Thorpe.
