Tamaqua Middle School earns AFG
The Tamaqua Area Middle School has received Accreditation For Growth (AFG) from the Middle State Association of Colleges and Schools. The announcement was made in early May.
The process began in the fall of 2010, when a planning team was formed.
The team included parents, teachers, students and members of the community as well as TASD board members and administrators. The team reviewed the middle school's survey results, then began the long process of establishing goals for the school and its students.
These goals then led the team to create action steps and implementation plans, outlining how each goal would be met over a seven-year period.
A team of teachers and administrators, representing the MSA, visited the school on Nov. 8, evaluating the Tamaqua Area Middle School's comprehensive program.
The visit included small group interviews with staff, parents, students and other stakeholders to determine if the school would meet the 12 standards set by MSA.
After a thorough review of the visiting team's report, the association approved the accreditation.
This achievement will be celebrated on June 2, the last day of school for students.
More information concerning the celebration will be posted on the school website.
