Rush police report accidents, arrests

Rush Township police report the following activity.

Joseph Porvaznik III, 26, Nesquehoning, is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance after police found him passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle on Progress Ave. Porvaznik was taken to St Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for blood work.False IDOn Feb. 23 at 1:35 p.m., Linda L. Courtney, 62, New Ringgold, was arrested on false Identification and other summary traffic charges after giving police a false name after she was stopped on SR309.Crashes into treeOn Feb. 23 at 9:12 a.m., Edward J. Staloski Jr., 71, Nesquehoning, wrecked his 2011 Mitsubishi after hitting a tree on while traveling on Lake Drive in Lake Hauto, police said. The vehicle was towed from the scene and Staloski suffered minor injuries.Picked up on warrantsOn Feb. 27 at 11:46 a.m., Chad C. Adams, 25, of Grier City, was taken into custody on outstanding felony warrants out of Michigan. Adams was lodged in Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville.Stolen carOn Feb. 27 at 1:23 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Taggertsville Rd. Police said no one was around the vehicle for several minutes and then Derek A. Shellhamer, 23. of Tamaqua, returned to the scene, asking police to give him a ride home. Shellhamer was intoxicated and also injured and admitted to driving the vehicle.Shellhamer was taken for his injuries and a blood test to determine his BAC to St Luke's Miners Hospital. Police found out the vehicle was stolen from Barnesville.Shellhamer was arraigned on the charges of theft, receiving stolen property, drug paraphernailia (heroin needle), DUI (alcohol and drugs) and leaving the scene of an accident. The vehicle, a 2011 Hyundai, was towed from the scene.Theft, criminalmischiefOn Feb. 24, police received reports of a stolen 16 foot aluminum ladder from Frankford Ave and criminal mischief to a Mercedes Benz, with someone smashing out multiple windows while it was parked on Ryan Ave.
