Accident seriously injures Franklin woman

A Franklin Township woman was airlifted following a one-car crash that took place about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, when her car left the roadway and struck a tree on Fairyland Road in the area of Simmons Auto. Franklin Township police officer Frank Lorah said that he was unsure why Wanda Herring, 45, of Vine Street, left the roadway, but that it appeared she may have been driving too fast for conditions. The roadway shoulder and road surface were icy in that area due to drifting snow. Lorah said he was investigating whether Herring lost control of the vehicle several hundred feet before going off the side of the road. Herring was not wearing a seat belt. Her head impacted with the windshield. Franklin Township firefighters assisted police at the scene and used emergency equipment to extricate the injured woman from her car. Franklin Township fire police also provided traffic control.
