Issues of snow removal and plowing were brought up at Thursday night's Jim Thorpe Borough Council meeting. These issues were taken into account and will be further discussed at newly structured public committee meetings.

During the council meeting the public was given a chance to voice their comments to the board. The issue of snow removal and plowing was brought up numerous times. Some residents discussed issues that mainly concerned how snow is dealt with on Broadway and West Broadway streets. These concerns included snow being plowed up close to houses, snow not being removed away from parking meters, and sometimes snow not being removed at all. Another concern was that some roads were not being plowed wide enough.President of Borough Council, John McGuire said, "This issue doesn't just concern our street department but our police department and how they work together. We need to look at prioritizing what needs to be done." In order to address the concerns of snow removal the council discussed that they need to look at the Jim Thorpe snow ordinances. "There are many contradictory things throughout the snow ordinances," said Mayor Michael Sofranko. Times have evolved and there are so many more cars and issues since these ordinances have been in effect, said Sofranko.McGuire and Sofranko discussed that the ordinances will be looked at and reworked.Issues like this will be further discussed at committee meetings. "With our new structure for committee meetings we will have them once a month. We have three committees plus zoning and planning committee meetings," stated McGuire. McGuire went on to say that the public can go on their website, jtborough.org, and view calendars which list the dates, times, and locations of these meetings. These meetings are open to the public and all are welcome. Issues will be discussed at these committee meetings and then voted on at borough council.The snow concerns will be discussed further at the next Public Services and Utilities Committee meeting on March 8th at 6:30 pm.
