Evans' fall lifts Bombers

It's getting to be somewhat of a routine for Palmerton that when it gets a wrestling win, it comes down to the final match to decide the outcome.

In a non-league showdown with rival Lehighton on Monday night, Josh Evans' pin at 112 wrapped up the victory for the Bombers as they pulled out a 36-32 win.In matches that are decided by so few of points, it's common for every match to be important to the result and this one proved to be no different.Perhaps there was none bigger than the 285-pound bout that pitted Palmerton junior Kane Kralik against Colton Davidson. At that point, the hosts trailed Lehighton, 26-24 and had a forfeit looming in the future at 103. So, Kralik knew what he had to do."I just knew I had to get the job done in order to get the win," Kralik admitted afterwards. "He was banging on my head early on and once I got him down, I knew I could get him on his back.""We needed a pin there because the bonus points were huge in every match," Lavin echoed. "He knew his job and he did it. Because if he didn't, then Josh (Evans) would have had to get the bonus points and work even harder than he had."Like Lavin mentioned, every match's bonus points were huge, and even in some Bomber defeats, losing only by decision contributed to the come-from-behind win.According to Lavin, "We noticed that one of the guys that Lehighton weighed in wasn't dressed. So, we had to bump up Cody (Grohotolski) to go against (Anthony) Farole. But him only losing 4-3 was big."Kralik's pin gave his team a short-lived 30-26 lead and the Tribe's Jacob Hoats took the forfeit to catapult his squad back in front, 32-30.That's when Evans took the mat against Nick Schaeffer, who entered the night with a 10-9 record. After a scoreless first period, Evans began rattling off back points on Schaeffer and built up a 7-0 lead in the second period. Evans finished off his opponent with a pin at 5:04, to send the home crowd into exultation.Individually, for Lehighton, Zachary Coleman pinned Travis Wolfe at 152, while teammates Mitchell Moyer and Ian Zimmerman earned major decisions to aid their team's effort. For the Bombers, other than Evans and Kralik's pins, Dillon Massington and Sam Oberlander earned decisions. Both teams are aiming for spots at the District 11 Duals this Friday and Saturday."Duals is a possibility," LHS head coach Danny Williams said. "We can realistically get into that and it would be great for us.""Our goal is District Duals and it's something we've been looking at all season," Lavin admitted. "We think we should be in pretty good shape to make it and that would be the first time that Palmerton ever made it."Palmerton 36, Lehighton 32119 - Dillon Masington (P) dec Kurtis Brownmiller, 4-0125 - Sam Oberlander (P) dec Jason McEvoy, 11-4130 - Jeremy Gornick (L) won by forfeit135 - JD Christman (P) won by forfeit140 - Joseph Bubble (P) won by forfeit145 - Anthony Farole (L) dec Cody Grohotolski, 4-3152 - Zachary Coleman (L) pin Travis Wolfe in 1:18160 - Mitchell Moyer (L) maj dec Jake Christman, 13-0171 - Ian Zimmerman (L) maj dec Andrew Strauss, 15-7189 - Mike Balliet (L) dec Jarrett Kleintop, 6-3215 - Skyler Rosenberry (P) won by forfeit285 - Kane Kralik (P) pin Colton Davidson in 4:28103 - Jacob Hoats (L) won by forfeit112 - Josh Evans (P) pin Nick Schaeffer in 5:04
