Jr. FF Matt Aungst remembered

A ceremonial ball was presented to the family of the late Matthew Aungst during the annual Lansford Fire Company No. 1 Christmas party and awards program held recently at the Lansford American Legion. Aungst was a junior firefighter with the Lansford Fire Company who passed away at age 15 on May 30th of this year. The ball was signed by 7 teams from surrounding fire departments. Toby Krajcirik, a friend of Matt's, set up the softball tournament to benefit the Matthew Aungst Memorial Fund. Fire companies from Lansford, Tamaqua, Summit Hill, West Penn and Jim Thorpe took part in the tournament as well as participating in many other fundraisers to benefit the fund. Pictured from left are brother and firefighter David Aungst, 18, father Lt. Chris Aungst, mother Mary Kelly Aungst, and Ron Hood, assistant chief. The Aungst family stressed their great appreciation to all the fire companies, family, friends and community for their support.
