Jim Thorpe borough appreciates commissioners decision

Carbon County Commissioners Charles Getz and William O'Gurek voted to give the Jim Thorpe Borough $8,000 from the Hotel Tax. The money is to aid in funding the police and emergency services at Jim Thorpe events. Members of the borough wished to thank the commissioners at last week's council meeting.

The borough originally approached the commissioners with the possibility of raising the price for parking in the Carbon County lot. The money is intended to help the borough pay for the police and emergency services that work Jim Thorpe events.Instead of raising the parking price, the commissioners offered to give $8,000 from the Hotel Tax. A portion of the Hotel Tax money the county receives goes to support non-profit organizations who promote tourism in the area. The money is to be used to man the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival. However, the borough can also use the money as they see fit as long as it is for the police department or emergency services at town events, stated Borough Council President, John McGuire. The borough appreciates the commissioners' decision to help Jim Thorpe protect town events with police and emergency services."I want to thank Commissioners Getz and O'Gurek for voting to support our police department and emergency services," said McGuire. "The reason the police department are at these events is for the safety of the people."
