There were no highway deaths recorded in Carbon County over the Christmas weekend, but police recorded scores of accidents last night as rain coated the highways with ice. A major tie-up occurred on the Mansion House Hill in Jim Thorpe between 1:30 and 3 p.m. yesterday when an estimated 100 cars were unable to negotiate that incline. By mid-afternoon, a State Highways department truck arrived and dumped an estimated truck-load of salt in the area.
