Santa visit brightens the day for patients

Almost as if on cue, their spirits were uplifted as the man dressed in red and white entered their rooms.

Indeed, all it took was a visit from Santa Claus on Tuesday to perk up the mood of patients at Palmerton Hospital.Accompanied by members of the Palmerton American Legion Post 269 and the United Veterans Organization of Palmerton, Santa stopped at various rooms to greet patients. Those patients fortunate enough to encounter Santa were given a goody bag that contained two ornaments, flags, an orange, crackers, a candy cane, and a Christmas Card.Robert Clements of Albrightsville immediately smiled as Santa walked into his room."Thank you so much; I appreciate it," Clements said. "You look good, Santa."Allan Quarles of Penn Forest Township also expressed his appreciation."Thank you very much," Quarles said. "Thanks for your services; I'm very proud of you all."Ed Moyer, commander of the Palmerton American Legion Post 269, said the event is well past its second decade."It's nice we get to make these people smile like this," Moyer said. "Especially the old-timers."The legion, which meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, is always in search of new members.Anyone who would like to join can call (610) 826-7475, or (570) 325-9657.
