Driver arrested, two hurt in crash

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said a driver was arrested and two persons were injured in a one-vehicle crash Nov. 23 at 3:55 p.m. on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township. Details of the month-old accident report were released today.

Police said Stacy Wesley, 28, of Philadelphia, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained major injuries and was flown by MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Police said the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.Also injured was the driver of the vehicle, Timothy L. Cantz, 32, also of Philadelphia, who police said was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries. Cantz was also arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a drug evaluation after the crash, police said. He was also cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.The accident happened when Cantz was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango westbound on the interstate when the vehicle drifted off the roadway and entered the south berm and roadside. It traveled along the roadside as the driver oversteered and overcorrected, during which time the vehicle rotated 45 degrees clockwise before rolling over onto its driver's side. Police said the Durango rolled over completely and continued to roll over again, landing on its roof and coming to rest facing northeast on its roof on the south berm and roadside.Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Pocono Mountain EMS and Tobyhanna Fire Department.
