Long-time Summit Hill barber dies in crash

A former Summit Hill man died in a three-vehicle crash on Hamilton Street in Allentown on Tuesday morning.

John Colangecco was a barber in Summit Hill, where he operated a shop for 70 years before retiring in 2006 from his Ludlow Street business.City police are still investigating the crash. Preliminary details indicate Colangecco was riding in the front-passenger seat of a PT Cruiser at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:54 a.m. An autopsy was performed Wednesday and showed the victim died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim.Police released preliminary information about the crash, but the identity of the drivers of the three vehicles were not immediately released pending further investigation. Police said preliminarily it appears a black Suzuki Forenza was involved in a collision with a vehicle at Second and Hamilton streets, before colliding with the PT Cruiser at Third and Hamilton streets.A red tarp was draped over the passenger side of a PT Cruiser and a stroller walker was lying on the ground next to the car. Police said the walker was removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel when they arrived and found the passenger had been killed. It is unknown if others involved in the crash were injured.
