The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.The Dec. 2 meeting included the annual Christmas party and was attended by 92 members. Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation before members enjoyed a meal catered by Christy Joy. Special guest was Santa Claus. A thank you card was sent to Sank Griffiths, who donated the poinsettia plant centerpieces.Mary Draper, Mary Taylor and Helen Patrick were added to the sick list. Sympathy cards were sent to Marge Skymba and Joanne Garber.The Dec. 9 meeting was attended by 73 members. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session. Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation entitled "Gifts I'd Leave You." Margaret Matsago was added to the sick list. Reports were offered by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld and treasurer Dolores Walck.October and November birthdays were celebrated with cake and ice cream provided compliments of Sank Griffiths. Honorees included: Carol Sedlock, Rose Mulhern, Doris Brobst, Jean Machamer, Mildred Yencha, Mary Herbig, Norma Baker, Joan Ann Garber, Eleanor Roberts, Lloyd Schmerfeld and Jane Springer.A special election was held for secretary for 2011. Joan Ann Garber was elected to the position.Installation of officers and other events are planned for the Dec. 16 meeting.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.South Ward neighborsThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Morgan Center of Lehigh Carbon Community College on High Street.The change in meeting place is due to construction activities at the South Ward Playground, which will be undergoing a total renovation.The public is welcome to attend and learn more about the organization and its activities.YMCA coachesThe Tamaqua YMCA is seeking volunteer coaches for its upcoming youth basketball, hockey and soccer programs, which are slated to begin in the new year. The concert will feature performances by the Sixth Grade Band and Middle School Chorus.The Sixth Grade Band, under the direction of Mark Beltz, will open the evening with "March of the Magical Toys."The Middle School Band is composed of students from all three grades and is under the direction of John Buglio.The concert is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.SS. Peter and PaulThe choirs of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will rehearse today, Youth Choir at 6 p.m. and Adult Choir at 7 p.m.
