Driver facing multiple charges

A Northumberland County driver is facing multiple charges following a crash in Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Julius C. Demetrius V, 20, of Kulpmont, was driving a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300 series southbound on SR61, just north of Red Church Rd., in West Brunswick Township, about 5 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, while it was raining. The rear tires had poor tread, troopers noted.Demetrius lost control of the car on the wet road. The vehicle slid off onto the berm and up an embankment while rotating counter-clockwise. The car continued to slide south coming off the embankment and sliding across a grass and dirt lot adjacent to the shoulder. The right side of the car struck and downed a cluster of road sign posts, then slid about 270 feet from where it initially left the road and came to rest. The right side and right rear suspension of the car were damaged which made it undriveable, troopers said.Demetrius left the scene and failed to notify police of the crash until several hours later. He will be charged with hit and run, driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed, and tire equipment/traction surfaces violation.
