Writers' workshop

The Black Diamond Writers' Network and the Pennsylvania Women's Press Association will combine forces to sponsor a workshop on visioning and setting goals. The workshop will be held Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Tamaqua Public Library. Guest speaker will be Cathy Colangelo, a life enhancement and career coach based in Weatherly.The public is welcome to attend.For more information, call Kathy at (570) 645-3059.SAL holidaysThe Tamaqua Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual holiday traditions, including the Angel Tree Program and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.The Angel Tree Program provides a season brightener for needy children who may not otherwise receive any gifts during the holidays.Names of participating children have been written on angel tags, which are then placed on angel trees at participating locations.Each Angel Tag provides the name, age, gender, clothing sizes and special Christmas needs/wishes of the child.Deadline to return new, unwrapped items will be Dec. 15.The Christmas Kettle Campaign is in full gear and in need of volunteers to spend two or more hours ringing the traditional bells at designated kettle locations.Funds collected are used to support local needy residents in the Schuylkill-Carbon area.For more information on either program, call the Tamaqua Salvation Army at (570) 668-0410.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion and decoration of the sanctuary Christmas tree. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, an evening praise and Bible study session will begin at 6:30 p.m.A prayer and share event will be held next Wednesday at 7

p.m.On Dec. 12, Janelle and Joel Shrum and their family will offer a presentation about their mission work. Janelle is the granddaughter of Paul and Nellie Heisler of the Lewistown Valley.Primitive MethodistThe Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a children's sermon. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.First Steps, a support group for mothers of young children, meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 6-8 p.m., at the church.Zion LutheranThe Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes for elementary age youth will be held at 8:30 a.m.A work day is scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Numerous interior and exterior projects are planned and volunteers are needed.
