Results of DUI operation released

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from a roving patrol and DUI checkpoint held recently in Schuylkill County.

A sobriety checkpoint was held Nov. 24 by 12 officers representing four county police departments. A total of 471 vehicles were contacted, with 31 detained. Six drivers were tested, with one adult arrested, suspected of driving under the influence. Officers issued 15 traffic citations, two seat belt violations and issued 12 warnings.Officers from two county law enforcement departments contacted and detained 19 motorists on Nov. 29 as part of a Roving DUI Patrol. Two operators were testedRe but no one was arrested for DUI. Officers also issued five traffic citations, made one criminal arrest and issued 13 warnings.Roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted through Dec. 5 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
