Give, so that others may live.
Bloodmobiles are only as successful as the donors whom they collect the fluid from.In the midst of its 60th anniversary celebration, the Palmerton Bloodmobile finds itself at a crossroads.Supported by volunteers since 1950, the organization arranges and schedules for about eight to 10 blood drives a year, according to Louise Calvin, treasurer.Calvin said businesses and service groups in the Palmerton area have been the main financial support through their donation of money, which provides the refreshments to the blood donors, as well as custodian costs. However, Calvin said the downturn in the economy has impacted the donations to the point where the organization has issued an appeal to residents for donations to continue the sponsorships of bloodmobile drives.Donations may be sent to Louise Calvin, Treasurer, 617 Franklin Avenue, Palmerton Pa 18071, with checks made payable to THE PALMERTON BLOODMOBILE. Also, indicate if the Bloodmobile may purchase your name as a sponsor on its posters and newspaper announcements.Calvin said volunteers to the Bloodmobile are always welcome, and those interested may call George Ashman at 610-826-2097."Blood donors are always needed and are the life-blood of the organization," Calvin said. The next Bloodmobile Drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13 at the UCC Church Hall, 457 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.
