FrankStock raises $6,000 for American Cancer Society

Hundreds of spectators took part in the annual FrankStock held recently at the Lakeside Ballroom in Barnesville. FrankStock is a yearly music event held to raise donations for the American Cancer Society and held in memory of Frank Ulicny, a 1977 graduate of Shenandoah Valley, and employed by Mrs. T's Pierogies until approximately 2002.

Frank fought a losing battle with brain cancer, which was brought on by complications from a disorder called neurofibromatosis. In August 2008, Frank lost his battle with brain cancer and is survived by his wife Jane Straub Ulicny and his two sons Christian and Jacob. Although, this event is in memory of Frank, all proceeds benefitted the American Cancer Society. Over $6,000 was raised from this event. This charity event, which was put into the works for a number of months prior was spearheaded by the band's lead Steve Ulicny (Frank's brother) and his band mates who decided to use their talents to give back to the community in general, year after year. After witnessing the great success of their Tinapalooza benefit event held in February 2009 at the Lakeside Ballroom, the band thought FrankStock would definitely be another worthwhile effort.Tinapalooza, which was also organized by Toolshed Jack, was held to benefit Tina Dixon who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2008 and later that year suffered a stroke. She was a piano teacher and singer who lost her 3-year battle. She was a loving mother of two teenage boys, caring wife to her husband Brad, a beloved daughter and friend who will be missed very much. In addition to music, Frankstock offered free giveaways, 50/50s, T-shirt sales and charity auctions.Along with Another Side, Tool Shed Jack, and All Side Jam band members, many performers also volunteered their talents to help the cause. Some were Tazin Bender, Renee Gubala (Locomotion), Jim Siemanis (The Other Side), Frank "Blazer" Blozusky (Neon Blonde), Dennis "Schotty" Schott (Tucker Young) and Dale Kauffman (Auburn, The Other Side). The following musicians also performed at no charge. Joe Jordan of the Jordan Brothers, Mike Macker of The Mudflaps, Jim Burns of The Other Side, Vince Kalochie of The Other Side, Bob "Wap" Wapinsky of Tucker Young, George "Chico" Hartz of Tucker Young, John "Pe We" Damiter of Tucker Young, Jim Juranis of Fat Cats, Section 8, Bill Lindenmuth of Fat Cats, Section 8 and others.Yuengling Brewery, Mrs. T's Pierogies, Kowalonek's Kielbasy Shop, and McCann's School of Business, Broad Mt. Dentistry, Realty World and various others were sponsors of this year's FrankStock."It's just an incredibly rewarding feeling to help the community," said Ulicny.
