A holiday tree-lighting will take place in Polk Township, at the Veterans Memorial in Kresgeville, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27. The rain date is Sunday, Nov. 28.

"We hope Santa will be there," the supervisors agreed.In regard to the upcoming holidays of Christmas and New Year being on Saturday, the folks with permits using the solid waste transfer station on Saturday are invited to come on Wednesdays.Township roads had been line painted at meeting time except for Route 534, though there seems to be some question as to the quality of the work. Chairman Brian Ahner has been in touch with the responsible entity.Ahner also reported that the township road crew is almost finished patching, that most of the equipment has been serviced, that two trucks are being further prepared with added equipment, and that the two furnaces have been serviced.Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Terry Jacoby reported that or September the volunteers had been called out 20 times whereas in October it was 22. He answered "over 200 people, pretty close to other years' events" in regard to how many folks had been to the fire company's Safety Day.The zoning/codes officer reported that 20 permits had been issued, including one new home, bringing the total for the year up to 265 for all kinds of permits.He also reported he has had 45 complaints for the year so far.Following the Planning Commission's recommendation, the supervisors unanimously agreed not to grant another time extension for the final subdivision plan of lands of Richard and Eileen Yacenko-Devens and annexation of lands of Michael J. and Tammy T. Held. Their action was based on the township engineer's Aug. 7, 2007 review letter. The plan was originally submitted on July 26, 2007. The solicitor will so inform the involved parties.Some easements must still be received as it pertains to anticipated work on culverts and a 3-0 vote approved spending $350 to remove a tree on Lower Middle Creek Road.Township personnel have attended several meetings, whether on emergency management or learning more about Marcellus shale as it pertains to Monroe County. The latter was a free presentation made by a Penn State educator at Pleasant Valley High School after the annual Monroe County Extension dinner.The supervisors will next meet Monday, Dec. 13.
