Scouts collect food for pantries

Dear Editor:

On Saturday, November 13, 2010 Cub Pack 138 of Jim Thorpe participated in the Boy Scouts of America national Scouting For Food project. Cub Pack 138 of Jim Thorpe collects donations both in town and in Penn Forest Township and splits the donations between St. Joe's Food Pantry in town and Christ Lutheran Church Food Pantry on the mountain. Last year we collected a combined total of 1,716 pieces of food for the two food pantries. This year we well exceeded that amount by collecting 1,761 pieces for Christ Lutheran Church Food Pantry and just over 1,000 pieces for the St. Joe's Food Pantry (a total of over 2,761 food items)!I am attaching a picture of Cub Scouts and their siblings from Dens 3, 6, and 9 who participated in the food collection at Christ Lutheran Church.Front Row (L to R): CJ Strauss, Jacob Monahan, Brianna Monahan, Colby McHugh, Dustin Paul, Ryan Monahan, Maddy Konklin, David Griffin, Shane MahoneyMiddle Row (L to R): Alex Putt, Robert Renode, Donovan Rhoads, Paul Onuskanich, Donovan Bierman, Tyler Szwed, Anthony Ward, Nolan RehrigBack Row (L to R): Ethan Mordaunt, Alex Strauss, Abigail Paul, Elizabeth Strauss, Collin Binder, Ethan Konklin, Dominick BiermanAnn Louise Hayes was kind enough to include our Scouting For Food pick-up information in her Jim Thorpe section of the Times News.Cub Pack 138 would like to thank everyone who donated and/or helped with the collection and sorting of all of the food items! If you have any questions or need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.Sincerely,Shawn BiermanCommittee ChairmanCub Pack 138, NVJim Thorpe, PA 18229
