Ladies from the LAHS class of 1964 donate to Trinity Pantry

Instead of sharing a meal at a restaurant for one of their social ladies nights out, the ladies from the Lehighton Area High School class of 1964, donated the cost of a meal out to a good cause.

"We decided to think of others," said Annabell Werner. Werner said that she offered to cook dinner for the entire crew if they would donate the cost of what a meal costs at a restaurant to the Lehighton Trinity Pantry.Ever since graduation, this group of approximately 17 girl friends has been meeting for dinner at a local restaurant once a month. They enjoy each other's company and catch up on life. They shared wedding stories, births of their children and grandchildren and all the little slices of life that are better shared with a good friend.Their collection netted 350 pounds of food, valued at approximately $20 donation from each lady. After hearing all about how the Trinity Pantry serves the needs of the needy community from Carolyn Long, assistant director, they knew their donations would be put to good use.Long said that the center serves 1,000 people a month. Each person who seeks food that is qualified, receives a three-day emergency supply of food.Long said that in addition to state funding, the church is funded locally by individual donations."We spend about $7,000 of donations a month on food from local donations," she said.Taking part in the food drive were, Noreen LeVan-Larkins, Annabelle Werner, Carol Behler, Marcia Jones, Mary Schoenberger, Terry Deutsch, Carol Mangold, Susie Green, Joan Troutman, Gerry Dorshimer, Susan Kipp, Phyllis Davidson, Carol Ritter, Sharon Mikulski, Eileen Buskirk and Maxine Gantz.Long said that the number of people the food pantry serves is always rising as more people are served each month.
