Christmas partyThe St. Ann Society, Branch No. 140, will hold its annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Lantern, Nesquehoning. The dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.Members planning to attend are asked to contact Louise Dunstan, (570) 645-4354.Summit HillTo host bloodmobileSt. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will sponsor a bloodmobile visit by the Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 2 to 7 p.m., in the church hall.Miller-Keystone is the only blood supplier to our local hospitals (Blue Mountain Health System Lehighton and Palmerton, and St. Luke Hospital and Health Network (Miner's Memorial, Coaldale).A goal of 35 pints has been established. Persons interested in donating should contact the church to arrange a donor time.Heritage centerThe Summit Hill Heritage Center is in need of several "wish list" items, including: plastic cutting boards (medium size), dish towels, dish cloths, shovels, brooms, a ladder, a mat for the narthex and a computer, printer and copier.Anyone interested in donating any of these items is asked to contact Deb Ranck, (717) 787-3672.Methodist ChargeThe schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Nov. 21, is as follows:Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.The adult Sunday school will be held at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.Budget workshopThe Summit Hill Borough Council is continuing its work on a tentative budget for 2011. Council will hold a budget workshop on Monday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. President Joseph Weber will be in charge of the session.Choir to rehearseSt. Joseph Catholic Church choir will rehearse tonight at 7 o'clock in the church. Bob Ames, director, will be in charge.NesquehoningKids Christmas partyOn Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Nesquehoning residents only, ages 10 years old or younger, are invited to the annual Christmas party at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center. Sign up at the recreation center during bingo on Wednesday between 5-10 p.m., or call (570) 669-9121 or (570) 669-6556 (must leave a callback number). Deadline to register is Nov. 24.VFW Ladies AuxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting of the Auxiliary to VFW Post 8008 was held Nov. 9. President Amanda Breiner presided.District 20 President Karen Bandzi and pro tem District Chief of Staff Miriam Mack were introduced.A donation for Wreaths Across America from St. John's Womens Auxiliary was received. Chairman Cathy Sommers reported on the program. For every two wreaths purchased, one will be donated under a special program. A contingent from the Post and Auxiliary will travel to Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in December to deliver and assist in placing the wreaths. A Girl Scout Troop from Lehighton will also make the trip and assist as a project for their troop.A Miller Bloodmobile collection was held at the Post Home on Oct. 27.Copies of a letter to Sen. Robert Casey were distributed regarding the expenditure of $63 million without assisting any veterans. Copies will also be available at the Post Home.An entry for the Voice of Democracy Program has been received from Tamaqua and will be sent to District. No entries were received from Panther Valley.Under Americanism and Loyalty Day, a special program is planned for May 1, 2011 to honor first responders for the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.The annual Christmas party will be held at Lengyels Restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m. A brief business meeting will be held prior to the dinner. Those planning to attend may contact Maureen Hirochek at 669-9578 to make their reservations before Dec. 10.Four members and the Poppy Queen rode in the Annual Veterans Day Parade in Palmerton on Nov. 7. Bill Moskerintz had the honor of being Nesquehoning's grand marshal, representing VFW Post 8008 and American Legion Post 172.District 20 Auxiliary will meet on Sunday, Nov. 28, at Walnutport at 12:30 p.m. Department President Bonnie Drake will make her official visit. A donation for the Parade of Presidents was approved for the meeting. A donation was also approved for Trees for Troops.Breiner reported the Sunday School children at St. John's are collecting items for the troops.District President Bandzi inspected the Auxiliary and found the unit in good working order and participating in all programs. She then spoke on the various programs and stressed the importance of membership being paid early.
