Walker Township Board approves tentative budget with no tax hike

Walker Township is holding the line on taxes for next year.

At a special meeting Monday evening, the township's board of supervisors adopted a tentative budget for 2011 that does not include an increase in real estate taxes. The $303,000 general fund budget keeps the property tax rates at 4.29 mills, including a one-half mill fire tax.One mill generates approximately $22,000 in revenue for the township, according to Suzanne Borzak, Walker Township secretary-treasurer.David Price, supervisors vice chairman, said it has been awhile since the township increased its tax millage."I'm on my second term as supervisor, and it was last raised in 2001, before I came on the board," said Price."Walker has always tightened its boot straps, so they don't suffer when the economy is bad," said Borzak. One change in the budget for 2011 is the allocation of an additional $5,000 for police protection."We are looking to add part-time police officers for next summer," mentioned Price. The board's next meeting will be on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
