Schuylkill driver facing DUI count

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a crash that occurred about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred along East Schmaltzdahl Road, near the intersection with Church St., in East Brunswick Township.

Troopers said Stephen Strouse, 52, of New Ringgold, was driving a 1995 Chrysler Town & Country van eastbound and approaching the intersection, near Smith's Country Inn, when he observed an 1997 GMC Jimmy illegally parked along the berm facing northbound.Strouse attempted to avoid hitting the GMC and struck a tree head-on. Debris from Strouse's vehicle struck the GMC. The GMC owner was identified as Deborah Weiss, of Kaska.Troopers said Strouse, who was not injured, was suspected to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. He was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, where he submitted to a blood test.The DUI charge is pending the test results.
