At the Nov. 8 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers a prayer for Veterans was recited by Norma J. Burke. Vice President Shirley Pavlick had a reading "Do Something Today." Minnie Kennedy led the group in a selection of patriotic songs.The guest therapist from Miners Memorial will visit the club in the spring to lead in arm chair exercises.Travel reports were given by Frank Karnish and Irene Hudasky for up coming trips. This meeting will have the birthday celebration for September, October, November and December. Join the people at the church.Free haircutsMeed's United Methodist Church Free will provide free haircuts on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Summit HillSHHS to meetThe Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the society's museum on East Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will be in charge of the session.Reports will be presented on the tinting of the windows at the museum, the society's newsletter, license plates and holders, and upcoming events, including a doughnut sale, a quilt and craft show and the Santa's Helper event.The society's next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the museum.Lions ClubThe Summit Hill Lions Club will memorialize one of its members with the planting of a tree near St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, in memory of Joseph V. Pampanin, who died Oct. 13. He was a charter member of the club and before retiring was a Pennsylvania State Policeman and the Carbon County Detective.At the club's recent meeting, past district governor Bob Argot was the guest speaker. He talked about the LCIF program and how it has assisted many people around the world.As part of its community service initiatives, the Lions assist monthly with the preparation and distribution of food boxes to the needy on behalf of the Summit Hill Food Pantry. Members Janel Tirpak and Mary Ann Szczecina can be contacted by anyone interested in helping with the project.The club will meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The guest speaker will be Henry Desrosiers, Carbon County's director of Veterans Affairs.Other dates on the Lions' calendar include: December annual Christmas social at date to be announced; Jan. 25 meeting Regional Chairperson Liz McElwee and Zone Chairperson Sandy Gallagher to be guest speakers; and Feb. 22 meeting Dr. Todd Banning will speak on the Heart Health Month observance.Dr. Kenneth Vermillion is president of the club.Scripture sharingThe weekly scripture sharing sessions hosted by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the church rectory.
