Burglary suspects caught in act

Two burglary suspects were caught in the act in Schuylkill County and are now being sought by police.

State police at Frackville said the incident began about 7:10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at the old Lincoln Elementary School along Roosevelt Drive, in Mahanoy Township.Troopers said John W. Reed, 46, of Mahanoy City, the building caretaker, was checking the property at the time stated when he noticed the exterior lights on the building were out. He entered the building through the front door and heard two males talking.The two suspects then began to run out of the building. Reed went outside to see where they went. One of the suspects got into a pickup truck at the rear of the building and drove it at Reed, who had to jump out of the way. The suspect then drove the pickup truck down an embankment and fled east on Roosevelt Drive.The vehicle was described as being a Dodge Ram, red in color, late model four by four. It may be a 2005 or later model and may have damage to the undercarriage due to running over large pieces of cement while fleeing the scene.An inspection of the building indicated the suspects gained entry by smashing a rear basement window. While inside the suspects cut all power to the building by turning off the main circuit.The suspects removed metal chop saws, copper and various other items. Also, large amounts of metal and other items were found staged in a stairway on the west side of the building near a door.Troopers listed Barbara Bonsall, of Mahanoy City, as a victim in the incident.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 874-5300.
