The November meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reported making six spot check inspections: La Dolce Casa; Tamaqua Elementary School; American Legion Post 173; Keystone Fish and Game Club; Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; and the Christopher Columbus Society. He also received and adjusted seven complaints: three concerning trash/rubbish; two infestations; and two properties unfit for human occupancy. There were no cases of reportable diseases.The board meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 11:30 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.Sorority newsMembers of all Tamaqua chapters of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held a dinner meeting at Basile's Italian Restaurant, Hometown, celebrating the Preceptor Degree earned by Diane Pruett and the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon pledge of Pat Kibbler.The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter will meet Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the home of Donna Gerber. Members are reminded to bring 10 Christmas cards, which will later be distributed to residents of the Hometown Nursing Center and St. Luke's Geriatric Center. A portion of the meeting will be held outdoors, as the program will include decorating wreaths of fresh greens.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, a new member class will be held at 9:30 a.m., will meet at 11:45 a.m. and a worship service will be held at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., Prayer and Bible study at 6:30 p.m. and Grief Share at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m. and praise practice at 9:30 a.m.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include the reception of new members. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m.The annual Harvest and Thanksgiving service will be held Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m. The event will include a celebration of Thanksgiving and National Bible Week, along with music, skits, old fashion decorations and dress, words of praise and a Harvest Home gathering.All are welcome to attend.Primitive MethodistThe Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a children's sermon. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.First Steps, a support group for mothers of young children, meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 6-8 p.m., at the church.A take out only pork and sauerkraut dinner, to benefit the Guatemalan Mission, will be held Nov. 20 from 4-6 p.m.
