Carbon County sheriff issues rebuttal of rally

The Carbon County Sheriff is voicing his disapproval for a rally that is slated to take place on Nov. 20.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Dwight Nothstein released the following statement about the Carbon County Sheriff's Brigade, an area group that has organized a rally to take place next Saturday at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe."The Carbon County Sheriff's Office does not endorse the Sheriff's Brigade," he said, adding that the brigade is not part of the sheriff's department, but rather a group of individuals in the county. "We feel they have some very good ideas and gripes but they do not have the right to use 'sheriff' because they are not the sheriff's department. The fact that they also want you to take a pledge to disobey unlawful and unconstitutional orders is absurd."As sheriff of Carbon County, I have an obligation to uphold the laws of the constitution and Pennsylvania," Nothstein added. He said that the deputies in the Sheriff's office are supporting him in his views of the meeting and added that he "encourages people not to attend the rally."
