Palmerton man killed in crash on Route 248

An 87-year-old Palmerton man was killed following a three-vehicle accident yesterday afteroon on Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township.

Stephen Fetchko, 87, died shortly after his arrival at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest due to multiple injuries sustained in the three-vehicle accident.State Police at Lehighton barracks said the accident happened at about 4:06 p.m. at the intersection of Route 248 and Club Road.Trooper Craig T. Dadurka, the investigator, said Fetchko was traveling east on Route 248 in his 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass and crossed into the path of a car driven by Roger E. Smith, 47, of Lehighton.Smith, driving a 1997 Nissan XE, was not injured, police said.The third vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, was stopped at a stop sign on Club Road and was struck by the Smith car, according to police. It was being driven by Karen M. Ringer, 46, of Lehighton. Ringer was injured, but the extent of her injuries was not known.She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital.A passenger in Ringer's car, Emily A. Ahner, 22, of Lehighton, wasn't hurt.Police said all three vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
