Firefighters from more than a half dozen communities were dispatched at about 6 a.m. today to a fire that broke out in the former Silk Mill on East Fifth Street in Jim Thorpe, which has been dormant for years. Fire damage was reported on the second and third floor of the structure. The cause of the fire isn't known, but a state police fire marshal was summoned to assist Jim Thorpe fire officials in the investigation. There were no reported injuries. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and contained the fire to a small portion of the building.
