Woman injured at Halloween parade remains hospitalized

A Slatington woman remains hospitalized after she was struck by a vehicle during the Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade on Saturday.

Barbara Halkias, age unknown, exact address unknown, was struck at around 6:40 p.m. as she attempted to cross Main and W. South Street, according to Slatington Borough Police Chief Dave Rachman.Rachman, who contacted the TIMES NEWS late Monday morning, said a Toyota Prius, operated by Vincent P. Bestefanis of Allentown, unknown age, exact unknown address, was decorated for the parade for one of the candidates who ran for state office."The parade had started; however, the vehicle was not moving in the parade yet," Rachman said. "She was crossing the street, and the car, for some reason, moved forward and struck her."Rachman said Halkias was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. She remained hospitalized as of late Monday morning, he said.The 103rd annual parade formed at South and Main Street in Slatington. Streets in the boroughs of Slatington and Walnutport were closed to traffic.
