North Schuylkill final game cancelled

North Schuylkill Athletic Director Jim Gross received word late Monday afternoon that Freedom Village, of Lakemont, N.Y., was forfeiting the game scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at North Schuylkill after numerous injuries left the Eagles without enough players to compete.

Gross told the Pottsville Republican Herald he received word around 4 p.m.He also was informed that Freedom Village intends to send a letter of forfeiture to the Spartans and District 11 Chairman Jack Wabby, which Wabby must present to a district committee to vote on. If the committee considers Freedom Village's reasons valid, it will award North Schuylkill the appropriate points for a win for purposes of deciding the Class AA playoff seeds. If the Spartans are awarded the points, North Schuylkill still may not have enough points for the second seed, unless Bangor beats Pen Argyl.
