Car flips in Hometown, woman injured

At 3:11 p.m. Sunday, emergency personnel responded to an overturned vehicle involving an entrapment that occurred on SR309 near Ye Old Dam Road in Hometown. Rush Township Police report the driver of the blue Subaru Outback was Jean E. Ocker, 81, of Center Valley. Police said Ocker lost control while driving north, left the road, drove up the northbound embankment, snapped a utility pole and overturned her vehicle several times. Ocker, who was still inside the upside down vehicle when police arrived, was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for injuries. Responding to the scene were fire companies from Hometown, Tamaqua, Quakake, rescue squads from Quakake and Tamaqua, police from Tamaqua and Rush Township and ambulances from Tamaqua and Lehighton. Hometown and Quakake fire police closed one lane of the northbound traffic for the duration.
