Boot camp

The Tamaqua Salvation Army is sponsoring a Christmas "Boot Camp" to help people prepare for the busy holidays ahead. Topics to be covered include: gift giving, keeping to a budget, cookie/dessert planning, Christmas cards, decorating ideas, establishing holiday traditions, handmade gift items and more.The weekly "camp" will begin Oct. 28 and continue Thursday evenings through Dec. 9. Camps will be held, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St.For more information, or to register, call (570) 668-0410.Walker treatsWalker Township's Safe Trick or Treat Night is scheduled for Oct. 30, from 5-7 p.m., at the New England Fire Company. The evening will include fun, food and treats. Township residents are welcome to bring their treats to be distributed to area children, 12 and younger. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. contemporary worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m. and rehearsal for the Sunday school Christmas Program will begin at 10:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Sunday School Harvest Festival will begin at 4 p.m. Activities will include a pumpkin decorating contest, a covered-dish supper and a hayride.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Called to Care Committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, dinner theater rehearsal at 6:15 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., Worship and Music Committee meets at 5:45 p.m., Brownies meet at 6:30 p.m. and the Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m.Choir rehearsals are held on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m., and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.Dinner theatre performances will be Nov. 7 at 1-6 p.m. on Nov. 19-20.
