Carbon woman facing charges

Tamaqua police have received an arrest warrant for Erica L. Neff, 29, of 247 Old Birch Rd., Jim Thorpe, in connection with a forgery case. The warrant was approved by District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua.

According to the affadavit of probable cause, Neff cashed a payroll check in the amount of $465.20 at We R Cigarettes, on March 19. On March 25 the check was returned to store owner Edward Paperman, by PNC Bank, marked as "unable to locate account." Paperman contacted police on April 2.Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods located Neff in early May and spoke with her on May 7 at the Carbon County prison.Neff admitted the payroll check, drawn on an account for INSULCO, Div.

M.F.S., was bogus, telling Woods it was given to her by an acquaintance from Bethlehem. She cashed the check and then split the cash with her friend. She refused to reveal the identity of the friend.Neff will be charged with felony counts of forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery, as well as misdemeanor counts of theft by deception, conspiracy to commit theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
