The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 12 at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Barnesville, with 45 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.Reports were presented by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Florina Martin, who also provided inspirational readings. Birthday wishes were extended to Louise Horn.The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 14.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.Sorority newsThe Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Oct. 6 at the home of Donna Sterling, featuring a Model Meeting for new member Pat Kibbler, followed by the regular meeting. The model meeting was conducted by Vice President Donna Gerber.A discussion was held concerning a clothing drive for spring and the sale of personalized baking pans.The Preceptor Ritual for Diane Pruett, as well as a Pledge Ritual for Pat Kibbler, will be held Nov. 3. Members of all Tamaqua chapters will be welcome to attend.Sterling provided a program about the history of chocolate and the many types available. The evening concluded with a buffet of desserts and beverages.The Secret Sister halloween Party was scheduled for Oct. 20.Y HalloweenThe Tamaqua YMCA will host its first Community Halloween party Saturday, from 6-9 p.m., at 1201 E. Communication assistance along the parade route will be provided by the Tamaqua Wireless Association.St. John's LutheranSt. John's Lutheran Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary this Sunday.The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m. A special celebratory service will be held at 3 p.m., honoring former pastors and Bishop Zeiser, followed by dinner in the fellowship hall.Activities for next week include: Monday, Social Ministry, Stewardship and Evangelism Committees meet at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, work on the garden begins at 5:30 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays: Chimes at 5:30 p.m.; Angel Choir at 6 p.m.; Shepherds at 6:30 p.m.; and Praise at 7:30 p.m.
