A column, some weeks back, listed a whole slew of Burma Shave ads, those relics of the past that dotted our highways back in the 1930s and 40s. We had such a good response to that column, obviously from people who have been around long enough to remember those days and those signs, that we came up with a few more you may remember.
For those too young to remember, just think of it as a simpler time when text messaging wasn't even dreamed of. But messages managed to get to us just the same. Thanks to Burma Shave for more than just a close shave.AT INTERSECTIONSLOOK EACH WAYA HARP SOUNDS NICEBUT IT'S HARD TO PLAYBurmaShaveBOTH HANDS ON THE WHEELEYES ON THE ROADTHAT'S THE SKILLFULDRIVER'S CODEBurmaShaveTHE ONE WHO DRIVESWHEN HE'S BEEN DRINKINGDEPENDS ON YOUTO DO HIS THINKINGBurmaShaveCAR IN DITCHDRIVER IN TREETHE MOON WAS FULLAND SO WAS HEBurmaShavePASSING SCHOOL ZONETAKE IT SLOWLET OUR LITTLESHAVERS GROWBurmaShaveBENEATH THIS SLAB,JOHN BROWN IS STOWED,HE WATCHED THE SIGNS,AND NOT THE ROAD.Burma ShaveWe'll end this column with some silliness, thanks to the contributions of another reader.
