State Police Commissioner Lynn G. Adams refused the request of an anthracite company for state police aid to eject coal bootleggers from the company property in Schuylkill County. "The law in Schuylkill County has apparently broken down and there is nothing I can do about it," Adams said he told former Judge H. O. Bechtel, counsel for the Renninger Coal Company of Pottsville. Adams told Bechtel he never sent State Police into the counties except on direct orders from the governor or in response from the county sheriff.
