Just trying to take it one week at a time

I have to be the first to admit the 2010 High School Football season hasn't been kind to me. Week 7 is upon us and I'm still sitting right near the bottom of the pack in our Grid Picks.

With four weeks left in the regular season and a couple of post-season playoff weeks, some might think nine games out of first might be a lot to overcome. That might be right, but I'm still going to give it a shot. The bad news is, Bob Ford is slowly sneaking back up on me. The good news is, I'm tied again with TJ Engle, just one game behind Emmett McCall and Rod Heckman.I've interviewed enough coaches to know you just take it one game or week at a time so that's what I'm doing. So here goes:JIM THORPE AT MAHANOY AREA - Golden Bears might be 5-1 but head into the meat of their schedule. I still think the Olympians could be the second best team in the Anthracite League ... Jim Thorpe, 28-7.LEHIGHTON AT STROUDSBURG - Since the Mounts found out this will be the last season for head coach Fred Ross, they've been a different team. Indians can score, but give up too many points ... Stroudsburg, 35-21.MARIAN AT MINERSVILLE - Colts are really struggling and from what we here, the Battlin' Miners could be the best 0-6 team around ... Minersville, 28-14.NORTHERN LEHIGH AT NORTHWESTERN - Bulldogs won the big one last week. Can't afford a letdown this week against the 5-1 Tigers ... Northern Lehigh, 28-7.PALMERTON AT BANGOR - The Blue Bombers could have been a big help to me if they wouldn't have shot themselves in the foot down the stretch and beat Northwestern. This week, they go up against another team with one loss and the Slaters have some talent. We'll give the Blue and White one more shot in an upset ... Palmerton, 24-21.PANTHER VALLEY AT SHENANDOAH VALLEY - Love those Panthers as they made me look real good last week with the win over Marian. This week, the travel to Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Devils just might be a little better ... Shenandoah Valley, 21-14.PLEASANT VALLEY AT EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH - A big test for the Bears as they head up to Bushkill for a battle with the Timberwolves. Jim Terwilliger's bunch is seeded third in the District 11 4A bracket. Go Bears! ... Pleasant Valley, 35-14.SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT TAMAQUA - Hurricane winds are predicted for tonight so we'll have to side with the visitors ... Schuylkill Haven, 28-14.MOUNT CARMEL AT NORTH SCHUYLKILL - Remember back in the days when Jazz Diminick roved the sidelines and it was a guaranteed win every week for the Red Tornadoes. This will be the Spartans biggest test thus far, but they still win ... North Schuylkill, 28-7.SOUTHERN COLUMBIA AT DANVILLE - One loss between two District Four teams that meet this week. I'll go with the team with the more experienced coaches in this one ... Southern Columbia, 14-13.WILSON AT SOUTHERN LEHIGH - It's big game time again for the Spartans and they get to host the Warriors, who have struggled through the season thus far and are just 3-3. If Solehi still wants to be a playoff contender, this week is big ... Southern Lehigh, 28-14.EASTON AT EMMAUS - Red Rovers play a tough defensive unit in the Hornets, but I'll still give them the nod ... Easton, 21-14.NAZARETH AT FREEDOM - The Patriots are coming off a loss to Northampton, while Nazareth's only losses have come to Easton and Allentown Central Catholic ... Nazareth, 24-13.ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC AT PARKLAND - The Vikings are the team for me until someone actually beats them ... Central Catholic, 21-14.CATASAUQUA AT PEN ARGYL - The Green Knights get back into the win column after last week's slip against the Bulldogs ... Pen Argyl, 27-7.
