Nesquehoning teen facing several charges
A Nesquehoning teen is facing several charges following an incident in which he fought with police officers causing the hospitalization of one and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on Friday, Sept. 24, and began about 10:59 p.m. at the New Columbus Park.
Police said Jeremy Hirochek, 19, of 39 W. Catawissa St., has been charged with aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, two counts of persistent disorderly conduct, unlawful possession of a controlled substance-Xanax, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor or malt brewed beverages, and four counts of harassment.According to the affidavit of probable cause on the date and time listed officers were called to the park for a fight. Upon arrival officers Ronald Peck and Brian White could not find anyone at the park. The officers began interviewing persons on Garibaldi Avenue and learned that there was a domestic incident in which Hirochek was assaulting his girlfriend. Officer Timothy Wuttke was then notified of the incident.A male was observed by Wuttke on foot near the park. Wuttke identified himself as a police officer and told the male to stop. The male fled into the park and hid behind a concrete pillar. Wuttke ordered the male, who was identified as Hirochek, to come out from behind the pillar.Hirochek was ordered to the ground and handcuffed. Found on his person was several pills and a small bag of vegetable matter later determined to be marijuana. Also the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on Hirochek's person.While on the ground the defendant began screaming for his girlfriend and calling the officers names. The was told to lower his voice but continued to yell profanities that could be heard by area residents.Hirochek then refused to get on his feet and was carried to the police cruiser and placed inside. Inside the car he began to bang his head off the cage of the vehicle and rear drivers' side window.Officer Peck attempted to stop Hirochek from kicking the window of the car and stop him from hitting his head. Peck was kicked on the left side of the neck by Hirochek.Hirochek was transported to the police station and placed in a holding cell. While in the cell he began banging his head off the cell door and concrete wall and began screaming profanities at the officers and threatened to kill them.Hirochek was now bleeding due to his actions of hitting his head off the walls. Officer Wuttke entered the cell to try and restrain Hirochek and suffered a thumb injury. Hirochek spit at the officer and began kicking violently striking Wuttke and White several times before the officers gained control.While loading Horochek into an ambulance, which was called to the scene due to his injuries, the defendant continued to fight with the officers and the EMS personnel. While in the rear of the ambulance officer Peck collapsed and became unresponsive.Peck was taken to the Blue Mountain Health Systems Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton, and admitted for his injuries. Officers Wuttke and White were treated and released at the hospital.At the hospital Hirochek continued his violent behavior with the hospital staff until he was sedated. He was later arraigned before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek, of Lansford, and committed to the county prison in lieu of bail.
