Church to honor firefighters, police, ambulance and community volunteers

Zions Lutheran Church, Third and Fell streets, Weatherly will honor the area's fire, police, ambulance, rescue and other community volunteers at a special worship service at 7 p.m. Oct. 10.

The service will be a special "Blue Service" with the Rev. Douglas McKeeby, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hazleton and designated pastor at Zions and St. Matthews Lutheran churches in Weatherly, presiding.There will be special music and hymns as well as prayers for those who serve and protect Weatherly and the surrounding communities.A special prayer will be said for all organization members, who have passed away in the past five years, a bell will be rung to honor each person.Zions invites any and all members of these organizations to attend this service in appreciation for the work you do to make this area safe.Members of the organizations are asked to wear uniforms, if appropriate. Those attending the service will receive a small token of appreciation from Zions.A reception with light refreshments will take place in the church annex after the service.Have the names of members you wish to have honored in the bell prayer to the Zions Lutheran Church office 335 Third St. Weatherly, PA 18255 or phone (570) 427-4113 by October 4 to have them printed in the bulletin.An approximate count of those planning to attend would be appreciated so the organizers may prepare accordingly.
